You don't need to do much to get ready for a decorator, that's our job, but a little preparation on your side makes everything run more smoothly, and can even keep costs down by saving time on the day. Here's what genuinely helps.
Clear what you can
Move smaller items, ornaments, books and anything fragile out of the room. Larger furniture can usually stay, we'll move it to the centre and cover it, but an emptier room is quicker to protect and quicker to work in.
Mention the awkward bits
Let us know in advance about anything tricky: a delicate antique, a wall-mounted TV, a radiator that's hard to get behind, or a room that needs to stay usable. The more we know, the better we can plan around it.
Take pictures down (or leave a note)
If you want pictures and shelves rehung in the same spots, take them down beforehand or mark where they go. If you're happy to reposition them, even better, fresh walls are a good moment to rethink.
Sort out colours early
Deciding on colours and finishes before the start date keeps things moving. If you're unsure, that's fine, we're happy to talk through options and how they'll look in your room's light. Order any wallpaper in good time, allowing for the pattern repeat.
Tip: live with a tester patch for a day or two before committing. Colours shift dramatically between morning and evening light, and between north- and south-facing rooms.
Pets, parking and access
Let us know about pets so they can be kept safe and settled, and mention any parking or access quirks. Small things, but they make the day run without a hitch.
